Our So You Think You Can Style? “Bouncy Bobs” Contest Winner

Congratulations to Kyla Huck of Valentini’s Hair Design in Guelph, Ont., on being named the first-place winner of our latest So You Think You Can Style? (SYTYCS) Bouncy Bobs contest. We caught up with the senior stylist and blonding specialist to learn more about her winning look, her journey in the industry and how entering competitions has pushed her creativity to the next level. Even with nearly two decades of experience as a hairstylist under her belt, Huck admits that entering the competition was a big step outside her comfort zone. “I was completely surprised,” she says. “It was my very first time entering any type of competition, so it means a lot to have that recognition.” Huck credits much of her confidence to the encouragement she received from her mentors Derrick Rutherford and Julio Rodriguez, who are the owners of Valentini’s Hair Design and previous Contessa winners and finalists. “They really pushed me to believe that I could do it,” she says. “They compete all the time and coached me through the process.
