"textContent": "AIDA Cruises has opened submissions for a new Innovation Hub as part of a wider slate of activities marking the cruise line’s 30th anniversary. The company said the program is designed to draw ideas from start-ups, universities and other companies, with winning concepts moving forward for development work alongside AIDA.\n\n## Innovation Hub targets decarbonization, sustainability and AI tools\n\nAIDA said it is accepting Innovation Hub applications in three theme areas: decarbonization, sustainability, and artificial intelligence and smart tools. Finalists will be invited to present their concepts to an expert jury, with one winner selected in each category.\n\nAIDA named the following experts for the jury evaluating the finalist presentations:\n\n * Professor Dr. Meike Jipp, Head of Energy and Transport at the German Aerospace Center, who is slated to help assess proposals tied to future energy and transport requirements.\n * Anisa Rizvanolli, Team Leader of Maritime Scientific Computing and Optimization at Fraunhofer CML, whose work focuses on maritime optimization and related technical applications.\n * Professor Dr. Ali Arnaout, Head of the International Management program at Wismar University of Applied Sciences, who will also be part of the judging panel.\n\n\n\nEntries are being accepted through AIDA’s website, and the company said winners will be able to continue developing their ideas together with AIDA.\n\nMelanie Marra, Vice President of Marketing and E-commerce at AIDA Cruises, framed the anniversary as the result of long-term collaboration across the business: “30 years of AIDA are above all a joint success. Our company history would not be possible without the great commitment of our partners, employees, and companions,” she said.\n\n## Hamburg, Kiel and Warnemünde events set for summer 2026\n\nAIDA also outlined a sequence of public-facing anniversary gatherings in Germany in 2026, including ship meet-ups and festival appearances in Hamburg, Kiel and Warnemünde.\n\n### Hamburg: June 7 parade on the Elbe with three ships\n\nThe first major anniversary gathering is planned for June 7, 2026, when AIDAsol, AIDAperla and AIDAprima are scheduled to meet in Hamburg for a parade on the Elbe.\n\nAIDA also released additional scheduling details around that Hamburg period, including AIDAperla arriving on June 6, 2026, for an overnight stay ahead of the June 7 parade. AIDAsol is scheduled to dock at the Altona cruise terminal on June 7, while AIDAprima is slated to arrive that evening.\n\n### Festival appearances in Kiel and Warnemünde\n\nAIDA’s anniversary calendar also includes Kiel Week on June 20, 2026, where AIDAnova is expected to be featured.\n\nFor Warnemünde Week on July 4, 2026, AIDAdiva is scheduled to return to the line’s homeport, where AIDA began operations in 1996.\n\n## Hamburg Port Anniversary sponsorship includes ship visits and an onshore pop-up\n\nSeparate from the June 7 anniversary gathering, AIDA said it will participate as a sponsor in the Port of Hamburg’s 837th anniversary weekend on May 8–10, 2026, marking its 12th time supporting the event. The cruise line said the weekend includes three ship visits and activity across two Hamburg cruise centers.\n\n### Planned ship calls and berth times during May 8–10\n\n * **May 8, 2026:** AIDAluna is scheduled to call at Altona from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the Port of Hamburg anniversary weekend.\n * **May 9, 2026:** AIDAperla is slated to berth at Steinwerder from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., giving the ship a longer call window than the other two visits.\n * **May 10, 2026:** AIDAsol is scheduled at Altona from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closing out AIDA’s three-ship presence over the three-day event.\n\n\n\n### “AIDA Urlaubswelt” activation and ship tour plans\n\nFor the same May weekend, AIDA said it will set up a 400-square-meter “AIDA Urlaubswelt” area next to the Elbphilharmonie concert hall. The company said the onshore activation will include a place to relax with harbor views, a replica of an AIDAcosma show cabin, interactive elements, and an AIDA Lounge with live music.\n\nAIDA released the following public opening hours for the “AIDA Urlaubswelt” area:\n\n * **May 8:** Open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with programming planned throughout the day and evening.\n * **May 9:** Open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., extending later into the night during the three-day celebration.\n * **May 10:** Open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., wrapping up the pop-up on the final day of the weekend.\n\n\n\nAIDA also said ship tours will be available during the Port of Hamburg anniversary weekend, including opportunities such as stepping aboard and dining in onboard restaurants.\n\n## Travel trade initiatives include EXPIcruises and a “Smile Moment” contest\n\nAIDA tied part of its anniversary year plans to travel trade programming, combining short-format sailings with workshops and a partner contest focused on sharing personal memories from the brand’s history.\n\n### Two AIDAperla EXPIcruises in June 2026\n\nAIDA said it will operate two EXPIcruises on AIDAperla, described as short cruises that combine destination time with sessions led by AIDA’s sales team. The company said the sailings can be booked through AIDA EXPInet.\n\n * **June 13–18, 2026:** AIDAperla is scheduled to sail from Hamburg to Rotterdam as the first of the two EXPIcruises.\n * **June 18–20, 2026:** AIDAperla is slated to operate a second, shorter sailing from Rotterdam back to Hamburg.\n\n\n\n### “Smile Moment” prizes tied to the EXPIcruises\n\nAIDA is also inviting travel agents, agencies and sales partners to submit memorable moments from the past 30 years through its “Smile Moment” campaign. Alexander Ewig, Senior Vice President Marketing and Sales, said, “For 30 years, AIDA has stood for moments that touch the heart,” adding that the company wants to make those memories visible as a reflection of what connects the community.\n\nAIDA said prizes include a 2,500 travel voucher and places in one of 10 cabins aboard AIDAperla for the June 2026 EXPIcruises.\n\n## Cruise & Help project reaches 100th school, with Zambia next\n\nAIDA is also linking its anniversary year to a milestone in its Cruise & Help initiative, which the company said has supported education projects in emerging and developing countries since 2019. AIDA said it will fund the program’s 100th school project: a new primary school in Mulando, Zambia, planned to serve around 160 children.\n\nAIDA President Felix Eichhorn credited the milestone to participation across the company’s wider community. “AIDA guests, crew, partners, and friends have achieved something remarkable together in just six years,” Eichhorn said, adding that the 100th project builds on earlier work that began with a small preschool in the Philippines.\n\nAIDA said Cruise & Help projects are financed largely through onboard fundraising activities and contributions from guests and crew.\n\n## Itinerary planning looks beyond the anniversary calendar\n\nDiana Havkost, Head of Deployment Planning for AIDA Cruises, said the brand calls at more than 350 ports globally and described itinerary planning as a balance between variety for returning customers and operational realities in each destination.\n\nHavkost highlighted several itinerary notes and longer-range planning items, including AIDAblu’s Eastern Mediterranean summer program in 2026 with new calls in Zakynthos and Bodrum, as well as AIDAstella’s planned Asia and Australia season in 2026–27. AIDA also outlined winter cruise options that include sailings to the Canary Islands, South America and the Caribbean.\n\nLooking further out, AIDA said it will begin visiting Carnival Corporation’s new Celebration Key in the Bahamas in November 2027. Havkost also said AIDA’s Japan program introduced in spring 2025 performed well and is scheduled to return in 2027.\n\nAs AIDA evaluates ports, Havkost said the company assesses infrastructure, operating requirements, and guest experience, and also considers factors such as political stability and logistical capabilities. She added that AIDA evaluates fuel availability, port costs, and distances between ports to manage fuel consumption. “When evaluating an entirely new port, we conduct a thorough assessment,” Havkost said, describing a process that also considers guest satisfaction and projected revenue and includes coordination with port authorities on scheduling.\n\nHavkost said the company is already considering winter 2028–29 and thinking about where to deploy newbuilds planned for 2030 and 2031, with additional capacity expanding destination options.\n\nIn the near term, AIDA’s next steps include running the Innovation Hub application process and preparing for the May 8–10 Port of Hamburg anniversary weekend, followed by the June 7, 2026 three-ship parade on the Elbe and the summer festival appearances in Kiel and Warnemünde.\n\n## Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)\n\n### What is the goal of AIDA’s Innovation Hub, and what categories are included?\n\nAIDA said the Innovation Hub is intended to generate new ideas that can be developed with the cruise line, drawing submissions from start-ups, universities and other companies.
