"content": "---\ntitle: \"ANZSRC FoR Codes 2020 edition\"\ndescription: \"The 2020 ANZSRC Field of Research codes in a searchable HTML table, because the ABS only publishes them in a spreadsheet.\"\ntags:\n - research\n - policy\n---\n\nimport ForCodesTableLoader from \"@/components/ForCodesTableLoader.astro\";\n\nThe Australian Research Council (well, technically the\n[Australian Bureau of Statistics](https://www.abs.gov.au) and their\n[NZ counterparts](https://www.stats.govt.nz)) have updated the\n[_Field of Research_ codes](https://www.arc.gov.au/grants/grant-application/classification-codes-rfcd-seo-and-anzsic-codes)\nwhich Aussie/NZ academics use to classify their\nwork.[^interdisciplinary-complaint]\n\n[^interdisciplinary-complaint]:\n I'm not the first interdisciplinary academic to complain about these types\n of classifications, and I'm sure I won't be the last, but that's not what\n this post is about.\n\nI was trying to browse these new codes recently, and had a hard time trying to\nfind the actual classification scheme (codes, hierarchy & code names). The\nofficial page seems to be\n[this one](https://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/abs@.nsf/Lookup/1297.0Main+Features12020?OpenDocument),\nbut the data is only available on sheet 3 of an excel spreadsheet, which is just\na bummer when all you want to do is <kbd>ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>F</kbd> your way around\nan HTML table in your web browser.\n\nSo, I've copied the relevant part of that spreadsheet into a regular-ol' webpage\nhere for your browsing pleasure.[^hosting]\n\n[^hosting]:\n Hopefully this is ok---the real data is © ABS and you should always go there\n for the canonical version.
