"textContent": "With Computex 2026 only days away, Synology today released their last year's announced 2.5\" 6-bay successor to the DS620slim.\n\n> ## Small Size, Big Performance\n\nNamed the **FS200T** , this 2.5\" **6-bay device** has advanced in the world of Synology, transitioning from a desktop DS series to the distinguished **FlashStation lineup**. Indeed, the smallest member of the entire portfolio is here to stay, now with a new name, category, and several upgrades.\n\nSynology FS6420 & FS3420 overviewFollowing the rollout of the RS XS+ models, these two new second-generation FS models deliver increased speed and performanceBLACKVOID.CLUBLuka Manestar\n\n2026 FS lineup new 2U models\n\n## : Prologue\n\nStarting in late 2024 and extending through mid-2025, Synology implemented several changes to its business practices and policies that were not well received by the general public, particularly among home and small business users.\n\nSpecifically, we are referring to their HDD compatibility policy, known as the HCL 4.0, which was published on April 16th, 2025.\n\nNew 2025 Synology disk compatibility policyNew 2025 Synology disk compatibility policy regarding disk support in upcoming new NAS modelsBLACKVOID.CLUBLuka Manestar\n\nAnnouncement of the new restrictive HCL 4.0 disk compatibility policy\n\nIn short, the policy mandates the use of Synology-only drives for all new and upcoming X25 DS models, although some models are still accepting enterprise drives such as the HAT5300.\n\nAs anticipated, the restricted drive compatibility over the following six months generated significant negative publicity in various forms until the release of DSM 7.3 in October 2025.\n\nDSM 7.3-81180 & 7.3.1-86003New #Synology #DSM 7.3 is here with some major changes! HCL 5.0 disk policy, as well as the beta of the new Synology Tiering feature!BLACKVOID.CLUBLuka Manestar\n\nDSM 7.3 introduced a new HDD HCL 5.0 disk compatibility policy\n\nThe new HCL 5.0 largely reverted the previous restrictions, restoring full compatibility for all desktop X25 models with both Synology and third-party drives.\n\nHowever, it is important to note that there is no guarantee that Synology will not attempt to enforce similar policies again in the future, or that certain features* may not be supported when using non-Synology drives (as is already the case). For now, customers are free to use any drive size and brand within the desktop models as they prefer.\n\n### *Compatible Synology drive benefits\n\n * Volume-wide deduplication (available with Synology SSDs)\n * Drive firmware updates throught DSM\n * Synology 1-stop techinical support\n\n\n\nThe reason for revisiting these past policies in an article about the new FS200T model is straightforward. The FS200T is a successor to the DS620slim, sharing the same form factor with minimal hardware changes.\n\nAlthough the hardware remains largely similar, the name alone warrants a brief overview that could shed light on the future prospects of this form factor.\n\n## : FS200T naming\n\nFrom Synology's perspective, the new FS200T introduces several changes compared to its predecessor. Moving away from the DS (Disk Station) series and adopting an FS (Flash Station) vertical form factor, Synology aims to position this compact device as an all-flash solution from the outset.\n\nFS200T naming profile\n\nThe previous DS620slim name clearly indicated it was a 6-bay model introduced in 2020, whereas the FS200T name now emphasises the CPU family and product generation, similar to the naming conventions used for the DP series.\n\nHowever, this clarification does not fully explain the initial prologue. The key reason is that users unfamiliar with the Synology compatibility list might not realise that the FS models are compatible with both Synology-branded drives and certain third-party options.\n\n> ## All-flash delivers snappy, highly responsive performance\n> Supports 6 x SATA SSD 2.5\" drives\n> Includes one 2.5GbE port and one 1GbE port, providing fast networking with failover support\n> Includes 4 GB of DDR4 SODIMM ram (expandable up to 8 GB)\n\nBased on the updated HCL 5.0, the new FS200T is compatible with any 2.5\" SSD on the market, but Synology will fully guarantee support only with Synology-branded SAT5200 series. Notably, compared to its predecessor, the FS200T no longer supports 2.5\" HDD drives, only SSDs.\n\n💡\n\n3rd party drives will be marked as ****Unverified**** in the Storage Manager. It will function for normal storage‑pool and cache operations, though you’ll receive a warning. You can also use it for ****migration**** from an existing system.\n\nFS200T disk compatibility (May 2026)Official supported accessories - drives and RAM (May 2026)Synology at Computex 2025The 2025 Computex is soon here and #Synology will be there to present new hardware, software, and services.BLACKVOID.CLUBLuka Manestar\n\nAt Computex 2025 Synology presented a lot of their new upcoming hardware including the current X25 segment\n\n## : Hardware overview\n\nFrom a hardware perspective, the new FS200T features some internal updates, but nothing substantial. Although the device was initially expected to be released in 2025, Synology decided to launch it this quarter. Despite expectations that some further refinements to its specifications might occur, no such changes have been made.\n\nThe new FS200T - smallest and most compact Synology FlashStation\n\n> ## All-flash design for quiet operations at home or in compact workspaces\n\nThe 6-bay FS200T continues to feature the announced **Intel Celeron J4125** quad-core CPU. This is an improvement over the DS620slim’s J3355, but as an FS series model, expectations were higher for a more capable processor. With the new profile naming, future generations may see more significant upgrades.\n\nCompared to the DS620slim’s two-core CPU and 2GB of DDR3 memory, the **FS200T offers a quad-core setup with 4GB of DDR4 RAM** , with an upgrade path to support up to 8GB of memory.\n\nFS200T - a 6-bay 2,5\" SSD compact model from the front\n\nThe FS200T preserves its compact size, with a depth of less than 18 cm, matching the external appearance of the DS620slim. It supports hot-swapping drives in all six bays. While the model is designed to operate silently and efficiently, the minimal noise—approximately 21 dB—originates solely from the single 80mm vent at the rear.\n\n> ## Miniature all-flash storage for enthusiasts\n\nThe rear of the FS200T maintains the same port setup as previous models, featuring **dual USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and LAN ports**. The notable upgrade is the addition of a **2.5GbE port alongside the standard 1GbE port** , aligning with the configurations on models like the DS425+ and DS725+.\n\nBack view houses all available ports\n\nThe FS200T's compact size makes it an excellent desktop solution or portable device. Its all-flash configuration minimises concerns about data damage during transport and makes it suitable for mobile use, such as in a mobile home.\n\nIts low heat output, minimal noise—around 21dB—and small form factor, combined with enhanced performance and improved network connectivity, position this NAS as a prime choice for home users, small office content creators, and enthusiasts.\n\nIn terms of power consumption, it averages approximately 25.5W during regular use and about 19.06W with complete disk hibernation. Actual power use may vary depending on DSM services and packages, which can affect hibernation and sleep states.\n\n**Weighing 1.4 kg** , the FS200T ranks as the second heaviest in the X25 series, just above the DS225+ (1.3 kg) and below the DS725+ (1.5 kg). It does not feature M.2 NVMe slots, similar to other Synology models, and many competing units offer full NVMe configurations. However, its primary limiting factor is the upgraded 2.5GbE network interface.\n\nEven with an HDD setup, it's possible to saturate the 2.5GbE connection, especially with SSD or NVMe arrays. Synology chose to focus on a reliable, tested 2.5\" SSD setup, which runs cooler and provides more storage at a lower cost.\n\nSynology Extended Warranty PlusSynology has introduced a new service for selected devices called extended warranty plus with up to 5 years of protection for your devices.BLACKVOID.CLUBLuka Manestar\n\nExtended Warranty Plus program\n\nThe suggested retail price in the US is $499, translating to approximately €500 in most EU countries. Like other models in this class, the **FS200T includes a 3-year warranty** , with options for Extended Warranty Plus (EW201) in select markets, extending coverage up to 5 years.\n\n## Sign up for free, today!\n\nVerified Synology news portal\n\nSubscribe\n\nEmail sent!
