How is it Tuesday and I’m only posting this weeknotes now? How are we like three weeks into the new year and I’m already forgetting the things I’m meant to be doing on Sunday evenings? How is this the only type of post I'm writing? My Table of Contents is going to look like I'm scolding some midcentury child:NowNowNowNowBusy one at the Charles & Sam Residence this week. Started the week on the sofa with Ghyll lying on top of me and (blessedly) not chewing on the heel he injured at the end of last week. Groggy.Spent the first half of the week in a bit of a fog. Prompted by uh the whole rest of the internet I finally caved & got a Claude Code subscription and then used it to write a script to try pulling down a ton of Teal.fm data into a hosted SQLite database, for ambiguous Data Science reasons. (As if I know the first thing about Data Science.) Anyway I thought I’d gotten it working, but then the backfill process wound up taking all night and my Claude prompts were getting worse and worse so I finally just gave up. What was I going to do with a big SQLite database of everyone’s plays anyway? And then it turns out that one of the reasons it was going so slow in the first place was a bug in Tap — so I might give it another try this week if I can be bothered. I really want to load it all into Datasette and see what Simon Willison gets up to when he’s not oracle-ising about new AI tools.Quiet during the latter parts of the week; take the car in for a service, raise a GitHub issue or two, give the guy who built the woodstove at Haughtongreen a ring to fettle a new cover for the big hole in the flue for sweeping. The cover keeps getting nicked by ne’er-do-wells & this time it’s been Nicked For Good I think.Drive to the Lakes early on Saturday morning for a big crawl over the north western fells of the Eel Crag/Grasmoor massif. On Sunday Sam makes corned beef sandwiches, American Style. They're fantastic. The beef is as red as the stripes on the flag. Then I sit around for the rest of the weekend scrolling uselessly on Bluesky over everything happening over there at the minute. I wonder what it would look like in Wingate if something similar happened here. I wonder if there’s enough community spirit here, or if everyone would be on Nigel Farage’s side about it.
