"description": "Between Levon's turns in this film and Blink Twice , Maya's in Stranger Things and Ethan's litany of accomplishments I'm starting to blindly associate the last name Hawke with movies worth watching. That he's surrounded by a brilliant cast including Peter Dinklage, Julette Lewis and Gbenga Akinnagbe certainly doesn't hurt. I also don't really like westerns . It's relatively brief, set against some beautiful scenery and altogether brutal. A family rapidly disintegrates against the backdrop of smallpox and the rapidly expanding American hellscape before the last two members of it are forced apart. Hawke gathers reinforcements and — ever so slowly — grows into doing what needs to be done. Nasty, brutish and short? I guess it's easier to be satisfied with how you go out when you know life is fragile and death is commonplace in a stolen, expanding frontier. Not the most original film — I guess (remember, I don't like westerns) — but I enjoyed the hell out of it. : James Hetfield is even in this thing! I didn't recognize him, but I also don't care about Metallica all that much.",
