"description": "Stillwater plods along at its own meandering pace. Generally, this is a bad thing with movies but it works here because Matt Damon is committed to his role as Bill and Bill meanders along at his own pace too. He's implacable in that way. He shows up in France, listens to his daughter Allison, fights on her behalf, screws up and stays to fix it. It's a compelling enough movie. Daughter (supposedly) wrongly convicted in a foreign country. Dad shows up to help. It doesn't quite land as essential or necessary though. Bill's there to help Allison, but the most touching moments are through his accidental relationship with Virginie and her daughter Maya. Bill's relationship with Maya shows the kind of father he could be if circumstances with Allison weren't what they were and had been. Allison alludes to Bill's past fuckups when speaking with Virginie on a one day release from jail. She also alludes to her own propensity for them. Bill fucked up. Allison fucks up. Bill fucks up fixing Allison's fuckup. He kind of fixes it until he realizes exactly how much she had, in fact, fucked up.",
