"description": "God? No god. 🧛🏻♂️🪓🚜 Certainly not in Barrow, Alaska. Yet another Josh Hartnett in a horror movie movies that I loved more than anyone reasonably should. The scenery is beautiful, the gore is visceral and if you're going to Alaska — bring an axe (though it looks like they have plenty on hand). Or a trencher. Bring a trencher, that worked well. The veneer of the practical effects brings to mind the Underworld series where — when things turned violent — everything got painted over with a bit of silver. It's not an abrupt tonal shift here, since it matches with the absence of daylight (hence the title). It brings everything I want out of this genre: a compelling cast that gets picked off one by one (I've been a fan of Mark Boone Junior since first seeing him in Sons of Anarchy ), plenty of scares, the violence that's a staple of the whole milieu and a bit of heroism (abject terror-induced and otherwise). Fun movie and — hell — I'd argue pretty good too. : The Faculty remains one of my all-time favorites.",
