"description": "Social media is pervasive and its impact has largely been malign. It’s birthed myriad influencers who shouldn’t have influence, pseudo journalists, scientists, hacks, quacks and conspiracies. All of that predates social media and has been amplified by social media. It’s clear to everyone who’s dealt with it or spent any time on it. The author presents an acceptable enough case, but it’s scoped entirely to her personal experience with the ills of the medium. That experience is valid and — in many ways — awful, but it lends itself to a linear narrative that dovetails with those experiences. Gamergate was an embarrassing, hellish, childish mess. Twitter files hacks are best ignored. The whole medium is depressing and I’m not sure you need this book to tell you that.",
