Do we know where we can find the source code/instances for these clients? or is there some other piece of information that hints to them being mobile clients (and specifically forks of the mobile client)

As if those people would care about licenses. They do some optimization on the clients to make them feel more like a mobile app (sou people would actually use it) and then plaster it with advertisements to make money.

Like the Google Play Store malware...
