there are core.register_on_authplayer() and core.register_on_prejoinplayer() but i dont know if they are called before the player is registered in player.sqlite

It bears further investigation, but I think you're right, without a default secret password, I don't know how to block registrations, just stop people joining.

Ed: Nevermind, custom auth handler should stop it at that layer
