General Discussion • Luanti seems to be getting faster

When I started out with 0.4.17 I found I had to use undersampling 2 or even 3, view range reductions to 50/60 and the perfomance tradeoffs setting to make it playable. Somewhere around 5.12-14 though I was able to use the def. 190 view range. With 1.15.2/1.16 I just now found out I can turn off perf. tradeoffs and set undersampling to 1 and it runs at a full 24 fps on servers that used to drop to 5 or so in some locations (intricate spwans, etc.). It can even run up to 60 fps (default setting) at times but I noticed high temperatures and CPU use and realized that I don't need that to get some "macho" high FPS setting. : ) This is pretty old laptop (14 yrs old I just found out - bought it refurb. 7 yrs ago) so it's not getting any faster and it is either down to Luanti or possibly the recent (long delayed) OS update from Deb. 10 to 13.

Nice. Kudos to whoever was responsible.
