The Pontchartrain Shakers bring Love, Peace & Chicken Grease (Southland Records) as a tribute to the cultural heritage of Louisiana, a gumbo of blues, soul, swamp, funk, second-line dance (preferably with an umbrella in your hand) and fiery Creole. Alto sax, trombone and cornet join guitar/bass/drums for rousing takes on Elizabeth Cotton’s 1906 “Freight Train,” RL Burnside’s 1978 “Jumper On The Line,” William Bell’s 1961 “You Don’t Miss Your Water (‘Til Your Well Runs Dry),” Louis Armstrong’s 1928 “St. James Infirmary” and six originals.
