How I'm using Margin
@margin.at ("Write on the margins of the internet") has captured my attention this past week (see my public profile here). In the same way Bluesky helped me kickstart a habit of actually writing down the ideas in my head, Margin has inspired me to be more intentional about gathering quotes and ideas from my reading.
I used to do this on Bluesky but it always felt clunky. I couldn't quote too much text because it would fill up the character limit, and I've never enjoyed taking screenshots and attaching them to my posts. Margin solves both of these problems, and in a way I didn't expect to enjoy as much I do, closes the loop between "capture" and "publish" by putting the very act of capture (and sometimes annotation) in the Atmosphere.
The last step I'm missing as a better environment for gathering it all and making sense of it: critiquing, connecting, comparing. My current process is ad hoc. I have a library of my own thoughts in my mind and the process of growing connections between them is entirely organic. Putting thoughts on Bluesky and notes on Margin is a good first step but I know I can do better at the synthesis step with digital assistance.
