Street tiles and disposable cameras

Spotted this piece while crossing Clark and Chicago. They start out covered in tar which is eroded away by traffic over time. This one has been here a while.

I had been out for a little stroll during lunch when I passed it. I thought of turning around and taking a photo right there and then, but the traffic lights didn’t agree. I kept walking up the street and came across a couple of girls posing under the wings of an eagle statue outside the entrance to a parking garage. I offered to take a photo and one of them asked me to get a disposable camera out of her bag. I handed the bag to her instead, and after some fumbling I managed to wind the camera and push the button. There was no click or indication of any sort. When I mentioned this to her, she insisted that the button was light and it didn’t take much. I’m really not sure I got it, but the good news is I will never find out.

On the way back I made sure to annoy a delivery truck taking a left turn as I grabbed a shot of the street tile. I had seen this very thing mentioned years ago on Ronny Salerno’s blog, and looking it up now it’s the same group. I vaguely remember seeing a different tile close by a few weeks ago; I’ll try and find it during the next excursion.
