Opinion: A story still being written for Southern Resident killer whales

While the world recently celebrated the signing of the High Seas Treaty โ a landmark agreement to protect marine biodiversity beyond national boundaries โ there is also encouraging news right here in the Salish Sea. Meaningful, collaborative work is underway to protect southern resident killer whales on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border. Protecting southern resident killer whales has never been the responsibility of a single agency or nation. The work requires trust, coordination, and shared stewardship, especially within transboundary waters. Across the Salish Sea, scientists, governments, Indigenous Nations, NGOs, and local communities have consistently come together to address this challenge. Read More
