Hello friends! Iām trying to get better at more casual podcasting. Hereās a quick ditty I recorded yesterday. Within it, I mention:
- The Blindboy Podcast
- Story Medicine with Vas Clementine
- ValƩ Joanna Macy (We Are The Great Turning is a beautiful podcast)
- Tools for Conviviality (1973) by Ivan Illich
Hereās a quote from Ivan Illichās polemic Deschooling Society__(1971):
āI believe that a desirable future depends on our deliberately choosing a life of action over a life of consumption, on our engendering a lifestyle which will enable us to be spontaneous, independent, yet related to each other, rather than maintaining a lifestyle which only allows to make and unmake, produce and consume ā a style of life which is merely a way station on the road to the depletion and pollution of the environment. The future depends more upon our choice of institutions which support a life of action than on our developing new ideologies and technologies.ā
I had a wonderful dinner last night with a couple of tech executives who are taking a pragmatic yet inspired stance on artificial intelligence. And earlier last week I worked with a room of entrepreneursāhigh agency, high autonomy folk who are motivated by more than just coin.
We are living in precarious timesābut this does not mean we simply have to ālet the future happen to usā. We can co-create a world more curious and kindāand a future less grim. All of us, in our every day.
