Nathan Fillion has just revealed at Awesome Con, 2026 that an animated Firefly series is in advanced development at 20th Television Animation.\n\nMarried writing-producing team **Marc Guggenheim (DC’s** _**Legends of Tomorrow**_**,**_**Arro**_ _w_) and **Tara Butters (Marvel Television “** _**Agent Carter ”,**_**The CW “** _**Reaper ”**_**)** are attached to serve as showrunners, and a script has been completed. Joss Whedon, who created the original series, is not involved in the animated project.\n\n> The proposed sequel series is set in the timeline between the series finale after the original 2002 television run and its 2005 feature film continuation,****_**Serenity**_ _,_ expanding the universe while preserving continuity with the established lore.\n>\n> _**Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, Jewel Staite, Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher,**_ and **_Summer Glau_** , all of whom are expected to reprise their roles.
