The Dance Of Grief, Loss And Hope In “Versa” Arrives At Disney+ In March.

Disney+ has officialy announced that the long-awaited Walt Disney Animation Studios short-film “Versa ” will debut March 27 on Disney+. The short film directed by **Malcom Pierce ( “Moana”) **produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios got critical acclaim in the Ottawa International Film Festival 2025.

“Versa” tells the story of a young couple looking to start a family who experience a gamut of emotions—from grief and loss to ultimate joy—as they embark on an ethereal, abstract and imaginative cosmic dance of life.

Composer Haim Mazar used a 69-piece orchestra to create a score that grows with the characters.

“Versa ” is inspired by the life of director Malcom Pierce as he lost his infant son, Cooper during the making of “Moana”. In grieving their loss, Pierce was inspired to tell their story. Pierce also shares that Cooper’s name appears in the “Moana” credits as a production baby, except it has a star next to it.
