"textContent": "clueless_2:\n\n> it was the DNS server. the one provided by my ISP was apparently insufficient to resolve an FTP server.\n\nFor some reason that’s not entirely clear to us, quite a few ISPs consider ftpupload.net a malicious domain name and have blocked it in their DNS resolvers.\n\nclueless_2:\n\n> rather than sending DNS information to the all-seeing eye of google, you can use a custom DNS IP in the TCP/IPv4 properties of your network connection, or don’t send any DNS information anywhere by simply putting these in the C:\\Windows\\System32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts file\n\nA host file override is one way to do it, but isn’t a very portable solution. Google Public DNS is free, reliable and has easy to remember IP addresses, but there are other free DNS providers you could use instead. Cloudflare and Quad9 are other global providers who are more privacy focused (but beware that Quad9’s primary nameservers also block malware so you may run into similar issues).",
