Positions in Luanti are C/C++ signed 16-bit integers ranging from -32768 to 32767. I don't know why they are capped off at around 31000 (probably to avoid overlap.)

Positions above 32767 would require 32-bit integers for all and every positions, which would greatly increase memory and storage requirements.
