Luanti-related projects • Re: Building a Full Ecology and Physics Simulator With Luanti
Hi! I'm a biology nerd who happens to have played Luanti for quite some time now, and today I discovered your project on YT and would like to get involved. Can you invite me to your server over Discord?
Glad you found your way over! Since I'm on the forum I'll give an update for future people:
Another_Catgirl and I have been sketching out the technical specs, with hopes of starting construction this summer. (I've been practicing my coding skills as well so that I can actually contribute beyond giving specs.)
We're going to have one part that handles the voxel calculations, including the plants, chemistry, liquid and gas physics etc. (I'm thinking of calling this 'Voxel Bonder,' since we're leaning on Bond Graph theory.)
Then there's a second part that will handle rendering and client input, which we'll be using Luanti for, at least at first. (And just so nobody feels rug pulled- the underlying source code will be FOSS, but we're probably going to put a 'premium' version on Steam, similar to what Dwarf Fortress did.)
Also, since we obviously will have to change the name at some point: I'm thinking of calling it "Cradle of Clay." This is a reference to the biblical phrase "Jars of Clay," which means that the spirit of life is more important than the fragile human bodies that contain it. It's meant to help evoke a sense of "you're here to take care of this place." Also a nod to Klei Wright, whose video essay inspired the project.
