General Discussion • Re: In Windows, is there a luanti.exe argument to specify what the MINETEST_USER_PATH environment variable specifies?
Those are both valid suggestions you could add to the tracker, where you'll get more discussion happening too (sorry, we're kind of fragmented between platforms).
I have just added a feature request on the Luanti GitHub.
Again, consider it my own bias as a Linux user, but in times gone by I would have suggested the .zip, but using directory junctions (or soft/hard links, but junctions were always my preference on Windows, nowadays I am an ex-Windows user).
A symbolic link is a valid option. It needs to be a relative soft symbolic link. I have configured relative symlinks for all these:
- cache/
- client/
- games/
- mod data/
- worlds/
- debug.txt
The issue is that this is limited to the NTFS file system (no FAT32 or ex-FAT USB key can be used). Symbolic links on Windows are not widely known (one reason is that you can only create them using a command line). In Linux, symbolic links are more common (I am a former Linux user, but have been forced to use Windows). Why do you prefer junctions nowadays in Windows rather than Windows soft-links?
