In general I'm against the use of mutliple mods, inside a single modpack, as an alternative for Minetest settings. But I understand why your suggestion might be better for some users. A few servers use this mod, and they generally delete the textures they don't need.

So feel free to fork the code, if you like (it should be a fairly painless modification). But make sure you're using the most recent version v2.002, which has important quality-of-life updates.
