The studies discussed in the article you've linked don't disprove what I've referenced, and I don't think sink-or-swim is a great strategy for introducing kids to social media at an early age. Socialization with peers can be just as well done through IRL interaction and texting and calls and facetime and whatever else, they don't have to be subjected to all the bad actors out there (the existence of which is not debated there either), from just plain groomers and predators to doxxers and scammers.
