April McClain Delaney wins Democratic primary for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District seat: AP
Rep. April McClain Delaney won her Democratic primary, fending off challengers in one of Maryland’s most expensive congressional races.
Rep. McClain Delaney first won the U.S. House seat in 2024. A mother of four daughters whose husband previously represented the district, she campaigned heavily on issues affecting women. She pledged to protect reproductive freedoms following the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 decision ending the constitutional right to an abortion and leaving those decisions to individual states.
Among those she defeated was David Trone, the wealthy Total Wine & More founder who previously held the 6th District seat before leaving Congress for an unsuccessful 2024 Senate bid. Trone loaned roughly $25 million to his campaign. McClain Delaney also invested heavily in the race, loaning her campaign more than $7 million.

The 6th District spans western Maryland and is anchored in Democratic-leaning Montgomery and Frederick counties. McClain Delaney and Trone led the eight-candidate field in money and endorsements; the contest grew combative over immigration, abortion and the role of personal wealth in the race.
McClain Delaney advances to the Nov. 3 general election.
