Law enforcement shot back and wounded the man, who was taken to the hospital where he died.\n\nOfficials have not released the name of the man or said if he was from the D.C. area.\n\nThey have not said what led to the shooting, if it was politically motivated and if President Donald Trump, who was in the White House at the time, was an intended target.\n\nInvestigators will need to determine if the man was acting alone or if he had accomplices.\n\nThe Metropolitan Police Department had responded to the shooting around 6 p.m. to the scene, near 17th Street NW and Pennsylvania.\n\nThe deadly confrontation spurred a brief lockdown inside the White House.
