Forest Grove School District is serving free breakfast and lunch to anyone 18 and younger at 10 sites in Forest Grove and Cornelius this summer, with no registration and no income requirement.
Kids and teens can show up at any site during serving hours and eat for free, with no sign-up required, the district said. Meals are served Monday through Friday, from June 22 through Aug. 21.
Five school sites serve both breakfast and lunch. Breakfast runs from 8 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m., according to the district, though times can vary slightly by site:
* Joseph Gale Elementary, 3130 18th Ave., Forest Grove
* Fern Hill Elementary, 4445 Heather St., Forest Grove
* Forest Grove High School, 1401 Nichols Lane, Forest Grove
* Tuality Plains High School, 2701 Taylor Way, Forest Grove
* Cornelius Elementary, 200 N. 14th Ave., Cornelius
Tuality Plains runs on a shorter schedule, serving meals Monday through Thursday through July 16.
Five park and neighborhood sites serve lunch only, from noon to 12:30 p.m.:
* Bard Park, 2921 22nd Ave., Forest Grove
* Lincoln Park, 2725 Main St., Forest Grove
* Rogers Park, 2421 17th Ave., Forest Grove
* Rose Grove Mobile Home Community, 3839 Pacific Ave., Forest Grove
* Harleman Park, 795 S. Heather St., Cornelius
Rose Grove sits on the free GroveLink shuttle route, which runs across Forest Grove.
The Forest Grove and Cornelius sites are open sites: any child 18 and under can eat free, with no enrollment or income check. They are part of federally funded summer nutrition programs the Oregon Department of Education runs while school is out.
Free meals are also offered statewide through summer camps, summer schools and other enrolled programs, the department said in a June 25 announcement. Those work differently: a child must be enrolled in the program, and meals are free to those who qualify, automatically for children who receive SNAP, TANF or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations benefits or are in foster care, and by household income for others.
Families looking for a site outside Forest Grove and Cornelius can search the state's Summer Food Oregon map or call 211, where an operator can point them to the nearest location. The closest sites for Gales Creek and Dilley families are in Forest Grove; neither community has its own location this summer.
Questions about the statewide program can go to ODE Child Nutrition Programs at ode.communitynutrition@ode.oregon.gov. Forest Grove site details are posted on the district's Summer Meals page.
