"textContent": "Washington County will host an open house June 11 in Forest Grove to walk residents through a planned traffic signal and safety upgrades at the intersection of Highway 47, Fern Hill Road and Maple Street.\n\nDoors open from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Forest Grove City Auditorium, 1915 Main Street. No presentation is planned; county staff from the Department of Land Use and Transportation will be on hand to review plans and answer questions any time during the two hours.\n\nA traffic signal anchors the project, giving a controlled crossing for Forest Grove schools, the school district bus barn, Fern Hill Wetlands and homes south of the highway.\n\nPlanned work also includes a center median, a new right-turn lane from Highway 47 to Fern Hill Road, a new left-turn lane from Fern Hill Road to Highway 47, updated street lighting, an adaptive Intelligent Traffic System and rebuilt curb ramps and sidewalk connections.\n\nUtility relocations are already underway. Construction is now expected to begin in the summer of 2027.\n\nThe work is funded through the county's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP, phases 3e and 3f), a countywide program that pays for road and safety projects.\n\nMore information is on the project webpage or through Capital Project Services at 503-846-7800.",
