"textContent": "At 12:01 a.m. Monday, June 15, fire season will begin on lands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry across northwest Oregon, including areas in and near the Tillamook State Forest.\n\nAll five districts in ODF's Northwest Oregon Area will start the same day this year, among them the Astoria, Forest Grove and Tillamook districts that form the Northwest Oregon Forest Protective Association (NWOFPA). June 15 will be the annual start date going forward unless conditions warrant an earlier declaration, the association said.\n\nThe NWOFPA region includes much of Gales Creek, Buxton, Timber and Manning, along with the Tillamook State Forest. It stretches north to the Columbia River, west to the Pacific Ocean, south to Sheridan, and east to parts of Gales Creek, the Killin Wetlands outside Banks and Scappoose.\n\nWhen fire season starts, ODF plans to set a Regulated Use level of Low for the public and an Industrial Fire Precaution Level of 1 across all three of its zones: NW1, NW2 and NW3.\n\nPublic use restrictions take effect through the agency's Regulated Use Closure, with activities allowed or restricted based on each area's fire danger rating and current conditions. Burning debris is prohibited without a permit at all times during fire season.\n\nResidents and industrial users can check current restrictions on ODF's Fire Restrictions & Closures website or by calling their local ODF office. For most area readers, that is the Forest Grove ODF office, at 503-357-2191.\n\nForecasters expect an earlier and hotter wildfire season across Oregon this year, citing record-low snowpack and a warm, dry winter that has already dried grass and brush, News in the Grove reported. Such forecasts aren't always accurate. The 2024 season was expected to be mild but ended up costing the state more than $350 million and prompting a special legislative session.\n\n### Operator preparation meetings\n\nODF will hold fire season preparation meetings for forest operators June 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Astoria, Forest Grove and Tillamook. Operators can contact their local district for details. The meetings will cover refreshers on fire laws and rules and include remarks from local staff on the season ahead, and operators will receive AOL credits.\n\n### Sign up for text alerts\n\nSign up for real-time fire season information in the Forest Grove, Tillamook and Astoria ODF districts by texting \"NWOA\" to 877-274-4067.",
