"textContent": "_The Forest Grove Police Log is written by the Forest Grove Police Department. News in the Grove does not write, edit, or alter the contents of the police log._\n\n* * *\n\n_Author’s note: While many people associate the Forest Grove Police Log with light hearted humor, its purpose is to share a sampling of the calls the FGPD received during the week - including the difficult and dangerous calls that we receive and respond to. Please note that this edition includes references to violence and suicide._\n\nDuring this time frame, Forest Grove police officers were engaged in 443 incidents, both reported and self-initiated, averaging 63 calls per day.\n\nThese are a few of those calls:\n\n * A convenience store manager reported they caught a couple of juveniles attempting to five-finger-discount a few items. Upon being called out, they backtracked to the counter and paid for their wares before leaving – however the clerk was immediately confronted by a none-to-pleased parent who didn’t approve of staff accusing their teen of being a thief. The parent and youths were gone upon police arrival, however officers did take a report should the incident escalate.\n * A caller at a different local convenience store reported they witnessed a parent yelling and shaking a child because they would not choose a flavor for their icy beverage. The duo was gone upon police arrival, and employees advised they saw nothing concerning.\n * A caller reported a man dropped some money in front of her in a manner she believed was intentional so that he could ogle while she retrieved it.\n * A caller requested that Forest Grove Police retrieve his dog from his ex’s house. Officers advised that custody of pets is a civil matter.\n * The local community theatre reported the theft of lumber from behind their building. Officers are investigating.\n * Within the same two hours of swing shift Forest Grove Police took calls involving a loose dog, an injured duck, a racoon that fell out of a tree, and a cat stuck up on a business roof. The dog returned home on its own; the injured duck had moved along prior to police arrival; the trash panda initially appeared fine but, sadly, eventually, didn’t make it; no word on what happened to the cat.\n * A caller reported their child had been taken with a friend to a 2 a.m. game of hide and seek at a grocery store in Hillsboro during a sleepover. Police determined no crimes had been committed, but did take an informational report.\n * Police responded to a report of an alcohol-fueled disturbance in the wee hours of the morning. On arrival it was determined that one of the individuals had indulged a little too much and worn out their welcome, but was now rather aggressively refusing to leave. Officers determined no crimes had been committed, but gave the intoxicated individual and their significant other a courtesy transport home for their safety.\n * A caller reported an unknown vandal sprayed shaving cream on the play structure at a local park.\n * Forest Grove Police assisted Washington County deputies when a call came out that a possible murder-suicide involving children was underway in Banks. After numerous units of law enforcement and medical were staged, the call was determined to be a case of “swatting” – fake calls, usually involving weapons or bombs, are maliciously made to 911 to generate a large police response to unsuspecting victims.\n * Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance during which one party threw drain cleaner onto the face of the other person causing severe burns. The aggressor remained on scene and was arrested for First Degree Assault; the victim, in critical condition, was transported to a hospital burn unit. At the time of this publishing, the victim was stable.\n * A caller reported a man was walking around the house with an axe, clearly exhibiting signs of both a mental health emergency and being very high on a stimulant. The man was taken into custody on a peace-officer-hold and transported to the hospital for evaluation. This is one of seven calls dispatched for mental health emergencies and suicide threats/attempts within seven days, not including welfare checks that turned out to have a mental/behavioral health component.\n\n\n\nDuring the week, officers also made 58 traffic stops, 16 welfare checks, and 9 arrests.",
