Valley Art Association will mark International Print Day in May on Saturday, May 2, with steamroller printmaking and other activities at its gallery at 2022 Main St. in Forest Grove.
It is the fifth year Valley Art has participated in the international event, which always falls on the first Saturday in May.
Artists are carving images into 2-by-2-foot MDF boards, which are sealed and inked, then printed onto paper by a steamroller in the gallery's back parking area. Free boards are available at the gallery. The deadline to return a carved board for sealing is April 29.
Other Forest Grove printmaking events that day include an outdoor print activity by April Hoff of Artingales, a printing demonstration at Gann Bros. Printing at 2032 Pacific Ave., and Valley Art activities featuring visiting printmaker Amy Nack of Idaho. Carving and printmaking demonstrations will be on view in the gallery.
A $35,000 grant from the California-based Siegel Foundation is paying for the day's activities, which are free, Valley Art board member Jeanne Levy said. The grant also covers safety improvements to the gallery's storage area stairs, interior insulation, printmaking classes and permanent printmaking equipment for Valley Art's Education Committee, Levy said.
Valley Art is also looking for volunteers to help with Print Day on May 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Interested volunteers can call 503-357-3703 or email office@valleyart.org.
A Valley Art membership runs $25 a year and includes the gallery's newsletter. More information is at valleyart.org.
