  "textContent": "Pacific University tenor Ben Christianson performed 10 pieces spanning three centuries Tuesday afternoon at the Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center in Forest Grove.\n\nChristianson, a junior double-majoring in kinesiology and vocal performance, presented the recital in partial fulfillment of his bachelor’s degree in vocal performance. He was accompanied by Cessaries Galusha, the university’s piano area coordinator.\n\nThe program ranged from Italian arias by Vincenzo Bellini and Francesco Durante to English works by Henry Purcell and Ralph Vaughan Williams. He demonstrated his lower range with Jerome Kern’s “All the Things You Are” from _Very Warm for May_. A set of German lieder included Schubert’s “Ständchen,” Schumann’s “Widmung” and Hugo Wolf’s “Verborgenheit.” The program closed with Craig Carnelia’s “Flight.”\n\nChristianson studies voice under Konstantin Kvach. He has also pursued neurosurgery shadowing opportunities, traveling to the Medical University of South Carolina under the direction of Dr. Daniel Snelgrove. He has sung in Pacific University’s advanced choral ensemble under Dr. Katy Green and leads the university’s tenor-bass ensemble, Splendid Audacity, as music director.\n\nChristianson’s recital was part of a series of Pacific University student recitals this spring.
