"textContent": "David Marzilli, a Washington County Sheriff’s Office commander with more than 28 years of law enforcement experience, will be Forest Grove’s next police chief, the city announced Thursday during the annual State of the City address.\n\nMarzilli takes over April 8, succeeding Henry Reimann, who is retiring after six years leading the department.\n\n“David is a proven leader and collaborator who has forged longstanding and respected partnerships across Washington County,” City Manager Jesse VanderZanden said in a press release issued Friday. “I’ve no doubt Dave will serve the community and Police Department with integrity and professionalism, and we are fortunate to have him. A big thank you to everyone who participated in the hiring process.”\n\n“I also extend my sincere appreciation to outgoing Chief Henry Reimann for his six years of dedicated service to our community,” VanderZanden said. “His leadership and commitment have had a lasting and positive impact.”\n\nMarzilli started with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in 1998 and rose through the ranks to commander, serving in leadership roles across several divisions. Born and raised in Maine, he was a reserve officer for the Old Orchard Beach Police Department before moving to Oregon in 1996, the city said. He is married with three adult children, all of whom graduated from Glencoe High School in Hillsboro.\n\n“Forest Grove is a community that values connection and collaboration, and I will use that to guide my leadership,” Marzilli said. “I am honored to be chosen as your next Police Chief and I am committed to working alongside our community and every member of our police department to maintain trust, stay engaged, and keep Forest Grove safe.”\n\nMeet and greets will be scheduled soon so the community can get to know the incoming chief, the city said.\n\nForest Grove opened applications for the position on Oct. 16 and closed them Nov. 23. Marzilli was selected after a nationwide search, the city said.\n\nReimann, who spent nearly 40 years in law enforcement, served 31 years with the Hillsboro Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant in 2019. That retirement lasted only a few weeks before he stepped into the Forest Grove role on an interim basis, which eventually became permanent.\n\nHis predecessor, Janie Schutz, served for seven years before retiring abruptly amid a dispute with city leaders.\n\nA salary range of $139,236 to $177,708 was listed when the position was posted. Forest Grove’s police chief manages a department of 38 full-time employees with an annual budget of more than $9.1 million.",
