Most bacterial gastrointestinal illnesses in Australia are thought to be caused by two pathogens, Campylobacter and Salmonella. But an emerging pathogen, Aeromonas, is much more common than previously thought, with UNSW researchers revealing that more than two years ago it was the second-most common bacterial intestinal pathogen in Australia.
