GB News Daily Reflection — Saturday 11th July 2026
In today's GB News Daily Reflection, we highlight how we are addicted to busyness and it kills our peace.
"We live in a world that often measures our worth by our busyness. If we aren't producing and working and fixing and scrolling and planning, we feel guilty.
"Ancient spiritual traditions talk about a concept called Sabbath, a mandatory day of stopping and complete rest. In the ancient world, Jesus did something extraordinary. He kept breaking the rules of the Sabbath. This religious day of rest.
"But he didn't do so because he was lazy. He did it because religious leaders had turned a beautiful gift into a heavy burden. They had hundreds of strict laws about what you could and couldn't do on your day off. Jesus was pointing out that it was a gift and a gift to be received.
"Now, let's be honest, in our modern day lives, 24 hours of rest seems impossible. There's bills to pay and kids to feed and and work to be done and laundry to be done. And that's where a radical statement by Jesus changes everything. He didn't call people to follow a rule. He said instead constantly, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.
"He was offering himself as Sabbath. He was saying, the true rest isn't about changing your calendar only, but changing your connection. You don't have to wait for a weekend of vacation, a gap in your schedule to find deep soul level rest, peace and happiness. You can stop trying to prove yourself to the world and accept the fact that you already are loved, seen and accepted and are enough."
