Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper sends message to US as 250th anniversary celebrations underway

Yvette Cooper has sent a message to Americans as celebrations are underway to mark 250 years since the US declared independence from Britain.

The Foreign Secretary highlighted the importance of the security partnership between London and Washington in the short video.

“It's a good moment to remember the generations of partnership on security and defence between the United States and the United Kingdom, as we mark 250 years of American independence,” Ms Cooper said.

She relished the opportunity to: “Celebrate the relationship between our peoples and the fact that this is about our security for the future, as well as many generations of history.

“So happy birthday to everybody across America for independence.”
