Major charity announces first round of store closures with 150 shops to shut - full list
One of the most iconic charities in Britain is preparing to shut down dozens of its high street stores with the first round of locations earmarked for closure now being confirmed.
The British Heart Foundation has announced the names of four stores that will cease operating as part of the wider closures, with one taking place this month.
The charity will close its Hawick, Scotland, branch this month, marking the first casualty in a sweeping restructuring programme that will see 150 shops shut across the country.
Rising operational costs and shifting consumer behaviour were cited as the primary drivers behind the decision.
The Border Telegraph reported this week that the Scottish branch would cease trading at some point in July, with customers still able to shop and donate items until the doors close for good.
Under the current proposals, approximately 90 branches are expected to cease operations by March next year, with the remainder scheduled to close by March 2028.
Dr Charmaine Griffiths, the charity's chief executive, acknowledged the emotional impact of the closures, stating: "Our shops mean so much to our colleagues, brilliant volunteers and communities across the UK."
She added: "We know this will be a difficult time for our dedicated colleagues and volunteers in affected stores and emphasise our deep appreciation and gratitude for all they have done for BHF and the communities they serve." ****

Dr Griffiths noted that the organisation, like most retailers, faces "an exceptionally challenging trading environment."
The foundation has committed to supporting affected employees throughout the transition period, with redeployment opportunities being made available where feasible.
Volunteers working at closing branches will be offered positions at nearby stores or alternative roles within the charity's wider operations.
Rachel Hill, manager of the Newark branch, told the Advertiser: "Thankfully, we are not closing we are safe for this year, so we need everybody's continued support."
The charity's shops serve as vital community hubs where people donate goods and volunteer their time to support those living with cardiovascular disease.
