"textContent": "\n\n\nFormer Masters champion Dustin Johnson suffered a horror show at the US Open, taking three shots to get out of a bunker and recording a quadruple bogey on hole 15 at Shinnecock Hills.\n\nJohnson scored an impressive first round and pulled into one shot of the lead on 10 but fell apart in the back nine, with 15 proving costly.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nJohnson tried to take the pin on with his first shot from the bunker but did not appreciate the green sloping left, which caused his ball to trickle back into the bunker.\n\nHe left his second shot way too short, with his ball falling virtually back at his feet.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nTRENDING\n\nStories\n\nVideos\n\nYour Say\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nTaking his third shot out of the bunker, Johnson got well underneath the ball, sending it flying past the pin and off the green.\n\nThe American eventually took an eight on the par four, recording a quadruple bogey.\n\nGroans were heard from the crowd watching the collapse as Johnson recorded a score of 78, moving to four over par, which should be enough to see him through to the weekend.\n\nWyndham Clark has been the standout performer over the first couple of days in the US Open, heading into the weekend seven-under-par.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n### LATEST SPORTS NEWS\n\n\n\n\n * Premier League fixtures in full as Coventry and Hull handed tough starts to new season\n * Jack Draper confirms return to tennis as Andy Murray prepares to be in Briton's corner\n * Gary Neville forced to deny agenda against England star after World Cup win over Croatia\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nSpeaking after his second round of 69, Clark told Sky Sports: \"I've just hit a lot of quality shots, and when I've got into trouble, just put it back into position and made some big par saves and then some nice long ones.\n\n\"It's been very kind of boring golf right now, which is really nice and good at a US Open.\"\n\nSpeaking about what he needs to do for the weekend: \"I'm going to have to clean up a little bit with a couple of putts.\n\n\"I didn't really make too many putts from eight to 15 feet. And then I started to lose my driver a little bit.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n\"If I can hit it in the fairway, I can be pretty deadly, so I'm going to go and work on that.\n\n\"And then patience. It's the US Open, you're going to get bad lies or some bad breaks. You've just got to handle it and move forward.\"\n\nMatt Fitzpatrick, who won the US Open in 2022, is in contention for the weekend, finishing on three-under-par over the first 36 holes.\n\nSpeaking after his second round, he said: \"Obviously two (birdies) in the last three always nice, especially at a US Open.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n“I just didn't really feel like I made too much up until those two holes really. Struggled a little bit off the tee on the back nine, but overall scrambled incredibly well to be where I am.\"\n\nOn how he plans to reel in Clark, he said: \"You've always got one eye on where you are on the leaderboard. I do, anyway. So, for me, I want to figure out where I'm at and whether things need to change.\n\n\"For the most part at a US Open, it's not like you can go flag hunting. I will say some of these greens with where they have to put the pins, you have a little bit more of a chance because most of them have to be pretty central just because of how slopy the greens are.\n\n\"There's obviously some of that that I'll take into account, but for the most part trying to play my same game, and you know, hopefully make a few putts from distance and see where it ends up.\"\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n**Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter**",
