"textContent": "\n\n\nA good skin care routine can slow the signs of ageing, especially if you are selective with ingredients and apply the products to your neck.\n\nBut apart from this daily routine, there are plenty of habits to slow down the signs of ageing.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nCan you prevent jowls? Nutritional therapist Alison Bladh BSc (Hons), mBANT, rCNHC, CIDESCO thinks so. She told GB News: \"Jowls develop gradually as collagen, elastin and facial fat change with age. Genetics influence how and when this happens, but lifestyle habits can also make a difference.\n\n\"While no one can completely stop the ageing process, there are several things that may help slow the development of jowls.\"\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nTRENDING\n\nStories\n\nVideos\n\nYour Say\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nOne of the biggest things that can cause ageing is phone use. Bladh said: \"Modern technology has created a problem that many practitioners now see regularly. We spend hours looking down at our phones, tablets and laptops, placing repeated strain on the neck area.\n\n\"Over time, this posture may contribute to horizontal neck lines and can also affect the muscles that support the head and neck.\"\n\nSo, what can you do? Aside from cutting screen time, changing how you look at your phone can stop signs of neck ageing from worsening.\n\nShe added: \"Making a conscious effort to bring devices closer to eye level and improving overall posture may not erase existing lines, but it can help prevent them from becoming more pronounced.\"\n\nAnother position that can affect your skin is how you sleep. Bladh said: \"The way you sleep can also affect the neck and chest area. Sleeping on your side can create repeated folding of the skin, which may contribute to sleep lines.\n\n\"Sleeping on your back may help reduce these creases, although it is not always comfortable for everyone. A silk or satin pillowcase can also be helpful, as it creates less friction against the skin than cotton and may be gentler on the neck and face.\"\n\n### HOW TO LOOK YOUNGER\n\n\n\n\n * What causes age spots? Creams can help prevent and minimise their appearance\n * Avoid common beauty mistakes that 'risk you looking older' - and how to 'achieve a youthful finish'\n * Doctor shares 3-step anti-ageing routine that will outperform any trendy skin care hack\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nWith the help of silk pillowcases and changing sleeping position, women could notice reduced creases on their neck, chest and even face, according to the expert.\n\nDiet is also important. Food is the source of vital vitamins and nutrients that will help promote collagen production. This can improve the skin's elasticity and hydration. Bladh said: \"What you eat has a direct impact on the health of your skin. Collagen is built from amino acids, so adequate protein intake becomes increasingly important as we age.\"\n\nTucking into meals packed full of protein and healthy fats can have a visible effect on your skin. Bladh continued: \"I encourage clients to include good quality protein with every meal, whether that comes from fish, eggs, poultry, dairy products, beans or lentils.\n\n\"Healthy fats are equally important. Omega-3 fats found in oily fish, walnuts and flaxseeds help support the skin barrier and may improve hydration.\n\n\"A diet rich in colourful vegetables, berries, herbs and other antioxidant-rich foods can also help protect the skin from oxidative stress, one of the factors associated with premature ageing.\"\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nBladh shared her top recommendations for slowing down the signs of ageing and preventing jowls from getting worse.\n\n### How to prevent jowls\n\n * Protect your skin from the sun every day\n * Avoid smoking\n * Maintain a stable, healthy weight\n * Avoid crash dieting or rapid weight loss\n * Include enough protein to support collagen and skin repair\n * Follow a consistent skin care routine\n * Keep your posture strong, especially when using phones and laptops\n * Eat a nutrient-rich diet\n * Stay well hydrated\n * Prioritise sleep and stress management\n * Gently massage the jawline and neck to support circulation and ease tension\n\n\n\nShe added: \"These habits support skin health throughout the body and may help maintain better definition around the jawline for longer.\"\n\n**Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter**",
