'No one believed them!' Vile Bulgarians guilty of attack on schoolgirls which sparked infamous axe video

A pair of Bulgarian siblings have been found guilty of an attack on two schoolgirls which sparked a viral axe video.

The man, Ilia Belov, 22, was found guilty of making sexual remarks to a group of girls between the age of 12 and 14 in Dundee before grabbing and pushing one of them to the ground.

His sister, Nadjedzha Belova, 20, previously admitted assaulting a 13-year-old girl by pulling her hair, dragging her to the ground, and striking her to the head.

The court heard how Belov told the girls: "Hello sexy, I'll show you a good time."

After one of girls responded by calling him a creep, he confronted the group and called his sister - who began her assault.

Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith said the girls were "eloquent" witnesses and rejected Belov's claim of self-defence.

He said: "The trigger for all this were the comments that you made."

Their mother told The Sun: "I’m so relieved the whole story has finally come out.

"It's been heartbreaking. They told the truth from the start but no-one believed them.

"Everyone was more focused on the axe than anything else so didn't listen to what really happened."

She also told BBC Scotland News: "They were telling the truth and they were slandered. There were too many lies at the start, so I'm glad it's all come out."

Shortly after the attack, footage of one of the girls brandishing an axe had gone viral.

But when concerned social media users shared the video online, left-wingers had accused them of "misinformation".

Elon Musk had been among those to have drawn attention to the clip - prompting Scottish First Minister John Swinney to accuse him of trying to "undermine" social cohesion in Scottish "communities".

Pro-independence outlet The National had reported on discussion of the attack as "far-right misinformation".

In an echo of Henry Nowak's murder, police had shared a statement which said "a Bulgarian couple were approached by youths in St Ann Lane, Dundee, on Saturday August 23".

Responding to that, former First Minister Humza Yousaf said: "But Stephen-Yaxley Lennon (Tommy Robinson) and his racist far-right mob told me migrants tried to sexually assault the girls?"

He added: "Who would have guessed the far-right were full of bulls**t?"

Previously the court heard how Belov had gone out for cigarettes on August 23, last year.

The girl told the court Belova approached the group, pusher her and threw her sister to the ground.

Belov claimed to the court the girls had made "cheeky remarks" and one called him a "f***ing migrant".

When asked if he had said "hello sexy" or "I'll show you a good time" to the girls, he replied "No, I swear on my god."

But as he walked away, he felt he was still being "disrespected", so he turned around and phoned his sister.

He then told the court he saw a knife sticking out from one of the girl's t-shirts and said he pushed her because he believed she "was going to do something".

But Sheriff Niven-Smith rejected Belov's version of events, saying his recollection was "neither credible nor reliable".

"For a number of reasons I find your evidence to be wholly unconvincing and self-serving," the sheriff added.

After the girl fell to the ground, she pulled out the knife and axe from her waistband, at which point Belov began filming the incident - sparking the much-talked about video.

Prosecutor Michael Robertson questioned why the Bulgarian father-of-two had rang his sister and not the police in response to the remarks from the girls.

He told Belov: "You were the adult in this situation, you could have just walked away couldn't you?

Belov replied: "You are right. I needed to know why they are disrespecting me for no reason."

"You phoned your sister and not the police?" the prosecutor continued.

"I thought we were in danger," Belov said.

The pair are set to be sentenced at Dundee Sheriff Court on August 5, nearly a year after the incident.
