Channel 4 Gogglebox fans all share same complaint about 'disappointing' episode: 'Must do better!'

Gogglebox viewers have hit out at Channel 4 after tuning in expecting a new episode, only to discover Friday night's instalment was a compilation special.

The broadcaster aired a "best of" edition following the conclusion of series 27, prompting a wave of complaints from disappointed fans on social media.

Many viewers took to X to express their frustration after realising the programme consisted of highlights from previous episodes rather than fresh content.

One unimpressed fan wrote: "Not another compilation masquerading as a new episode, come on guys - must do better. Too much filler, not enough killer #Gogglebox."

The backlash came despite Gogglebox favourites Jenny Newby and Lee Riley warning fans that the latest run was coming to an end.

The pair shared a video message on social media ahead of Friday night's broadcast, thanking viewers for their support throughout the series.

Mr Riley told followers: "Well guys, that's it, the last of the show this evening.

"I hope you've enjoyed all 16 weeks as much as we have. Thank you for all your support through this series."

Ms Newby added: "Yeah, and we hope to see you all again in August."

Mr Riley later clarified the programme is expected to return towards the end of August or in September.

Despite the complaints surrounding the compilation episode, many fans were quick to reassure the duo that they would be eagerly awaiting the show's return.

One supporter commented: "You two never fail to make me smile, you are both the reason I watch Gogglebox never stop the double act. Have a wonderful summer."
