Idyllic beach with 12 hours of sunshine a day tops list of the warmest in Europe this summer

Cyprus is the place to be if you are after guaranteed sunshine this summer, according to new research.

A study found Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa takes the crown as Europe's warmest beach, with average summer temperatures hitting a pleasant 28°C.

The research, by hoppa, looked at dozens of European coastal spots, scoring them on everything from temperatures to transfer times and hotel costs.

Cyprus, Greece and Spain came out on top across the rankings, giving inspiration for Britons planning their summer escapes.

Coming in second is Vouliagmeni Beach on the Athens Riviera, where temperatures average 26.7°C during the summer months.

This Greek gem also boasts 12.6 hours of daily sunshine and sits just 37 minutes from the nearest airport – perfect for those who can't wait to hit the sand.

Coral Bay in Paphos, Cyprus rounds out the top three with temperatures of 25.8°C.

Beach enthusiasts clearly love this spot, giving it a 4.4 out of 5 rating on Google, and it sees barely any rain during summer, at just 1mm.

Back at Nissi Beach, you'll find more than 12 hours of sunshine daily, no rainfall, and three-star hotels averaging £79 per night.

For those watching their wallets, Faliraki Beach in Rhodes is a real winner. The study found three-star hotels nearby average just £36 a night, making it the most affordable option in the study.

And if you hate long coach journeys from the airport, Portugal's Praia de Faro is your best bet with a transfer time of only five minutes, which is seven times quicker than the 35-minute average.
