"textContent": "\n\n\nIconic Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler, 74, was placed into a medically induced coma at Faro Hospital in Portugal yesterday after her condition worsened following emergency surgery for a perforated intestine.\n\nMs Tyler is known for her hit songs such as Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out For A Hero, and is reportedly recovering well from an operation earlier this week.\n\nHowever, it has since been reported by Portuguese publication Correio da Manha that the singer is now unconscious and connected to a ventilator in the intensive care unit.\n\nMs Tyler owns a property in the Algarve where she divides her time with her South Wales home.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nBefore her hospitalisation, Ms Tyler had been preparing for a European Tour which was scheduled to take place later this year.\n\nConfirming the news, Ms Tyler’s spokesperson said: “Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery.\n\n“We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time, please. We will issue a further statement when we are able to.”\n\nHer representatives expressed awareness that family, friends and fans would be concerned, asking them to wish her a full and swift recovery.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nThe sudden decline in Ms Tyler’s health came as a shock to her fans, as she appeared alongside ITV’s Lorraine Kelly just weeks before.\n\nShe addressed the common misconception about her earnings from her famous track – Total Eclipse of the Heart.\n\nMs Kelly noted that the song had accumulated over a billion streams on Spotify, and suggested that Ms Tyler could kick back and relax, retiring on the proceeds.\n\nHowever, the singer was quick to set the record straight and explained: “But I didn't write the song! I'm just a singer, you know, so I didn't write that song.\"\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nThe song was written and composed by Jim Steinman, meaning that the royalties from the song went to him during his lifetime.\n\nAfter his death in 2021, Ms Tyler believes that the royalties were then transferred over to his family.\n\nWhilst not receiving a lot of money from the song, Ms Tyler spoke fondly of her time making it and said: “The first time I heard it, shivers up my spine.”\n\nShe noted that she had been desperate to work with Mr Steinman, and was stunned when she found out he had chosen her to perform the song.\n\n### LATEST DEVELOPMENTS\n\n\n\n\n * Taylor Swift’s legal team hits back at Las Vegas showgirl over 'meritless' trademark lawsuit\n * BBC radio star, 57, dies as co-stars deliver tearful on-air tribute to 'kind and lovely' presenter\n * Alan Cumming fires fierce swipe at Baftas as actor replaced as host for TV Awards: 'Bad leadership!'\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring her career, the singer had earned three Grammy nominations throughout her career and represented the United Kingdom at Eurovision in 2013.\n\nShe received an MBE in 2023 for her services to music, describing the honour from the Prince of Wales as the highlight of her career.\n\n\"I never ever thought I would have something like this, my mother and father would be so proud,\" she said at the time.\n\nMs Tyler has consistently maintained she will never tire of performing her signature hit, calling it a karaoke classic that audiences continue to adore.\n\n******Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter**",
