"textContent": "\n\n\n\nFormer Spandau Ballet frontman Ross Davidson has been jailed at Wood Green Crown Court for 14 years after being found guilty of a series of rapes and sexual assaults against six women between August 2013 and December 2019.\n\nThe 37-year-old, originally from Aberdeen, served as lead vocalist for 1980s the pop group in 2018.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nHe also appeared in the Queen tribute musical We Will Rock You in London's West End.\n\nA jury at Wood Green Crown Court convicted the musical theatre performer of raping a woman in the capital in 2015.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nHe was additionally found guilty of attempted rape and sexual assault against another woman in Thailand in 2019.\n\nThe court heard that Davidson carried out these attacks because he believed he was entitled to \"sex on demand.\"\n\nDavidson had denied all charges, insisting the encounters were consensual.\n\nProsecutor Richard Hearnden told the court that Davidson was considered \"a bit of a sex symbol,\" but his victims discovered he possessed \"a much darker side that they did not notice, at least at first.\"\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nHis sense of entitlement to sexual gratification drove him to commit rape and assault when women did not comply with his demands, the prosecution argued.\n\nDavidson connected with his victims via the dating application Tinder.\n\nDuring the trial, he characterised himself as \"sex positive,\" explaining this meant being open to discussing various sexual preferences and experimenting with different practices, including bondage and group activities.\n\nOne victim recounted that Davidson assaulted her whilst she slept, leaving her feeling \"helpless\" and \"scared to react\".\n\n### LATEST DEVELOPMENTS\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nPrior to the attack, he had expressed interest in having sex with someone in \"a helpless state.\"\n\nPolice first arrested Davidson at his home on May 1, 2019 in connection with a separate matter for which he was never charged.\n\nHowever, officers seized his electronic devices during this arrest, subsequently discovering multiple recordings showing him sexually assaulting and raping victims.\n\nThese findings led to Davidson being charged with 17 sexual offences, including rape, on 24 June 2022.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nDetectives proactively identified women featured in the recovered footage and contacted them.\n\nFollowing media coverage of the initial charges, further victims came forward to report their experiences.\n\nOn July 6, 2024, prosecutors added three more counts of serious sexual offending to the case.\n\nThe offences involved six victim-survivors in total, with incidents dating back to 2013 when one woman reported being raped while Davidson recorded the assault on his phone.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nThree of the victim-survivors have spoken publicly about their ordeals, urging others who have suffered sexual violence to seek help.\n\nOne stated: \"Speaking out about sexual violence is not easy. It can feel overwhelming, frightening, and at times isolating. However, I hope that by coming forward, I have shown that it is possible to be heard and that what happened matters.\"\n\nAnother said seeing Davidson held accountable was \"an important moment\" and hoped it would encourage others to speak up.\n\nDetective Constable Kamila Kedadrova praised the victims' courage throughout the six-year investigation, saying: \"The Met remains committed to securing justice for victims of sexual offences, no matter when they occurred.\"\n\nShe noted the force has more than tripled arrests and charges for rape and serious sexual offences over the past five years.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n**Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter**",
