King Charles is set to meet New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani during his state visit to the US next week.

His Majesty is due to visit the Big Apple on Wednesday, the third day of his trip, where he will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the 9/11 memorial in downtown Manhattan.

During the visit, the monarch is anticipated to meet Mayor Mamdani, Politico reports.

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg will also be present at the ceremony, alongside various other officials from New York's government.

The inclusion of New York's mayor in proceedings of this nature is considered standard protocol for such diplomatic engagements.

Both King Charles and Mr Mamdani have a good relationship with US President Donald Trump.

The monarch's trip is set to be under the microscope, after President Trump revealed yesterday that it "absolutely" could help repair relations between the UK and US.

Mr Trump has consistently and publicly criticised UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for his failure to get involved with the US-Israeli offensive in Iran.

However, his admiration for the Royal Family, and King Charles in particular, has never waned.

"He's fantastic. He's a fantastic man," he told the BBC.

"I know him well, I've known him for years. He's a brave man, and he's a great man. They would absolutely be a positive."

Earlier this month, Mr Trump had insisted his opinion and strained relationship with the Prime Minister would "not at all" overshadow or impact the visit.

He also described the King as a "great gentleman".

"I've known him for a long time. He's a wonderful, wonderful person," President Trump said.

Similarly, Mayor Mamdani, who has held his position for just over 100 days, also has a well-documented relationship with the President.

"He’s the president of the United States of America. I'm the mayor of New York City, and we know that so much of what the city needs is also dependent on a relationship with the federal administration," he told NBC News last week.

"Our conversations are not just of the scale that is typical with the President, but also granular about even the things as specific as zoning law changes in midtown Manhattan.

"That, I think, speaks to the fact that Donald Trump is not just the President of this country, he’s also someone who’s been a New Yorker for his entire life, and there is an investment in this."
