Graham Norton admits being left in tears as he opens on ITV The Neighbourhood moment: 'Tear to my eye'

Graham Norton is set to host the latest ITV show which sees households go against once another for a staggering prize – with Mr Norton opening up about one moment he was left touched.

The Neighbourhood is a thrilling new reality entertainment format, which sees families and households compete in a street-sized popularity contest, battling it out for the chance to take home a life-changing £250,000 cash prize.

Taking part in the brand new series are the Kandolas and Samra, who are a blended family from Bedfordshire, made up of mum Sunita, her husband Tony, and Sunita’s son Ruben.

Next is the Scouse Haus, which sees twin sisters Louise and Lyndsey be joined by Lyndsey’s girlfriend Rosie.

The third family are the Brandon’s from Essex, with mym Faye-Marie at he forefront, followed by her daughter Alicia, sons Lucas and Nathan, and Nathan’s teenage son Zach.

From Cambridgeshire are the Pescuds, which sees Paul and Wendy compete with their children Grace and Harrison.

Away from the family relationships are the Uni Boys from Nottingham, which is made up by close group of friends - Hadi, Kevin, DJ and Fahad.

Lastly are the Lozman-Sturrocks who are a closeknit family from Darlington made up of Christine, her husband Dave, her son Jordan and Jordan’s wife Katie.

When discussing what was his favourite thing from the show, he admitted: “One of the loveliest things about the show is seeing households who would never meet in real life, not only meeting but forming proper bonds of friendship.

“There are a few moments in the show that really do bring a tear to my eye because it’s just so genuine, so lovely and properly heartwarming.

“It’s such an odd word to describe a show like this but it’s properly wholesome - there’s something about the bright colours, being out in the countryside, and the genuine bonds that you see created.”

When comparing the new series against others, Mr Norton said of the format: “Because it is ‘The Neighbourhood’ we can all relate because unless you’re very, very rich you probably have neighbours!

“We all - even if you don’t necessarily want to- you get drawn into those everyday dramas. The ‘you haven’t cut the lawn, they put the bins out wrong, you shouldn’t park there’.

“What the show does is really amp those moments up, and dramatises them even more.

“There’s the gameplay but because they’re there all the time there’s the reality that these people really are living next door to each other and watching each other like hawks and like any good neighbourhood.

“You want your way but you want to keep everyone sweet and that’s the skill! This show has been cast really well, so these people are all really good at it.”
