  "textContent": "\n\n\n\nEamonn Holmes’ eldest son says the support shown to his father since it emerged he suffered a stroke means the world.\n\nIn a statement issued this morning Declan Holmes, 37, said: “I just wanted to share a quick message to say we hugely appreciate all the messages, it means a lot to us as a family. What happened came as a real shock, but Dad is doing okay given the circumstances and we’re taking it one step at a time.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\n“For now, we’re focused on him and keeping things steady around him. We’d really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family.”\n\nDeclan’s statement comes 24 hours after GB News announced that Eamonn had suffered a stroke and was recovering in hospital.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nIn a statement issued yesterday the People’s Channel said: “Eamonn was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke. He is currently responding well to treatment.\n\n“Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.\n\nHis colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the People’s Channel when he is ready to return.”\n\nEamonn had been due to return to _GB News Breakfast_ tomorrow, to front the programme he co-hosts from Monday to Wednesday with Ellie Costello.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nAlex Armstrong will step in to present in his absence this week.\n\nEamonn is Britain’s longest-serving breakfast news presenter, with a career spanning more than 40 years.\n\nBefore joining GB News in 2022, he anchored _GMTV_ (1993–2005), _Sky News Sunrise_ (2005–2016), and co-presented ITV’s _This Morning_ (2006–2021).As part of the People’s Channel team, Eamonn has helped _GB News Breakfast_ achieve significant and sustained success.\n\nLast year, the programme, presented by Eamonn, Ellie, Stephen Dixon and Anne Diamond, won Best News Show for a third consecutive year at the Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards.\n\n###\n\n\n\n\nThe viewer-voted award saw the show beat _BBC Breakfast_ and _Good Morning Britain_ once again.
