UK Eurovision song to be sung in GERMAN and criticises British culture as 'boring'

The United Kingdom's Eurovision Song Contest 2026 entry has been unveiled this morning - but controversially, a large chunk of the chorus is in German.

The track, titled Eins, Zwei, Drei, by experimental electronic artist Sam Battle is set to represent the UK at the 70th edition of the contest in Vienna this May.

Performing under the name LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER, Sam Battle has crafted a track that blends retro eighties-style music with flashes of "Britpop."

However, it is the repeated German refrain, Eins, zwei, drei, that has caught many listeners off-guard, given that the entry is representing the United Kingdom.

The phrase, which translates simply as one, two, three, forms the backbone of the chorus and is repeated throughout the song.

The song also appears to take a swipe at elements of British culture.

In one part of the song the lyrics read: “Counting in English doesn't cut the mustard. So sick of munching roly-poly with custard. I'm so bored with it, bored with it.”

Elsewhere in the track, the singer expresses the drudgery of everyday life, opening with the lines: “So sick of doing the whole 9 to 5. I pay my dues, I'm just staying alive.”

The song then leans into the German counting theme, with the chorus declaring: “Eins, zwei, drei. Darlin', I need something salty. Eins, zwei, drei. With a slice of pepperoni.”

The unusual linguistic choice is even acknowledged within the song itself, during an interlude where Mr Battle sings: “Ah, if only there was a language that I can count in that would make me feel better.”

The English musician first emerged in the British music scene as frontman of indie band Zibra before building a significant online following.

Mr Battle currently has 250 thousand Instagram followers and almost 1 million subscribers on YouTube.

Speaking after the reveal, he said: “I am absolutely buzzing that the world can finally hear what we have created.

"Eins, Zwei, Drei was born during a session with the other writers and producers on my synthesizer ‘Kosmo’, and I couldn’t be prouder of it.”

He added he hopes audiences will “dance, shout, sing along, and just embrace the absurd jubilation” the track is designed to deliver.

The contest itself will culminate in the Grand Final at Wiener Stadthalle on May 16.
