Android users FINALLY unlock useful Gmail update that iPhone owners have enjoyed for years
Android users can now create labels in their Gmail inbox for the first time — almost seven years after the iPhone first received the same feature.
Labels give you the ability to create subfolders to organise your incoming emails, whether that be monthly household bills, upcoming trip itinerary information, or work project details. It's a handy tool in the arsenal for those who want to reach "Inbox Zero" and are struggling to wrestle a bulging inbox.
To activate the feature, you'll first want to navigate to the Gmail app on your Android smartphone or tablet. From the top left, select Menu > All Labels.
You'll need to select Create Label , enter a name, and then clickSave. If you ever want to alter these labels, you'll need to navigate back to Settings and select your account. Tap on Manage Labels , and then edit any of the labels that need changes. These adjustments will be reflected in your inbox across all of the correspondence that carries that label. Finally, to ditch an unwanted label, you can select Delete under the Manage Labels heading.

If you've also used Gmail from your desktop, then you may already be familiar with this feature and how it works. Likewise, if you've previously owned an iPhone, you'll also likely be well-versed in how the feature works... in fact, only the Gmail app for Android was missing this functionality.
What makes that especially strange is Google owns and operates both Gmail and the Android operating system, which is used on billions of devices worldwide. Still, better late than never and the update has been rolling out gradually, so don't worry if you haven't received it on your device quite yet.
This is the latest in a flurry of changes and updates we've seen from the Californian search company. Google just launched three updates designed to make writing emails and sorting through unread emails much simpler. Powered by its Gemini 3 model, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant created by the US firm, you'll be able to ask questions about your inbox, get help with writing your emails, and have your most important emails prioritised.
On the other hand, **award-winning VPN provider ExpressVPN just added a free security boost **to your Gmail inbox. This new tool supercharges your privacy with disposable email aliases. These unique addresses will mask your real email when signing up for new services, using apps, or dealing with potentially untrusted services. All mail is forwarded to your actual inbox — so you'll never miss out on any correspondence.
